Studio Boheme is a design collective based in Miami, Florida that serves as a digitally-native platform to commission, produce, and showcase cutting edge international design. Each of their designers express their point of view by bridging the disciplines of art, architecture, and product design. All of the artists’ functional pieces have been precisely crafted and designed through highly collaborative yet uniquely personal creative processes that seek to disrupt traditional definitions of art and design. The collective was founded in 2020 and is helmed by interior design professional, Carlos Mancin.
The company launched in spring of 2021 with a capsule furniture collection entitled Gardenia designed by Venezuelan architects Rodrigo Armas and Julio Kowalenko, the principals behind Atelier Caracas.
Founded in 2015 by Julio Kowalenko and Rodrigo Armas, Atelier Caracas is a precociously productive studio based in Caracas, Venezuela. Operating as a platform for formal, aesthetic, and cultural investigation spanning architecture, furniture, and art, Atelier Caracas draws strong influences from pop culture and everyday found objects to create alluring spaces and objects at once academic, iconoclastic, thought-provoking, and symbolically charged.
Shortly thereafter, Hayworth tapped Atelier Caracas x Studio Boheme to design and produce a series of nine functional sculptures for a Special Project at the Untitled Miami Beach art fair’s 2021 edition.
For some, the sculptures resonate as symbols recalling popular Emojis or vectorized forms used in signage and commercial branding. Each individual sculpture may be considered colloquial in nature, or juvenile in tone, but is rooted in and derived from a loaded pictorial vocabulary referencing architecture, literature, music, advertising, and fine art. Derived from an alchemical blending of culture — sources spanning from Bruce Conner to Ant Farm, the Michelin Man to Helmut Newton, John Hedjuk to Michael Jordan — Radical Semantics is underscored by intellectual curiosity and punk sensibility.
Hayworth supported the full campaign from inception to execution, including providing public relations support, overseeing press outreach, media training, interview management, press material development, publishing a limited print-run booklet about Radical Semantics, and assisting with sales at Untitled Miami Beach.
